

Recommended Tools and Resources
There's literally hundreds of options when it comes to swim equipment. My lessons and workouts use some pretty standard gear, and some items that inspire some extra focus in practice.

This is my top tool for developing a fluid stroke that preserves pacing and symmetry. I use them in a majority of lessons, and guide many swimmers on sets and stroke optimization with them

Similar to the SONR Coach unit I use for private lessons and some group practices, the SONR music unit can be used for tempo training, swimming to music (including to planned tempo) and even to recorded lesson segments for practice reflection
Training Fins

I find that training fins can be very helpful for amplifying certain stroke aspects, especially leverage from the hips for rotation, and for oblique and back access in power. Long fins can help in new swimmers, but most settle into a short- to mid-range fin pretty quickly.

Not for everyone, but certainly for many of my runner and triathlete swimmers, who have trouble mastering balance drills because a reactive kick takes control of their stroke. If your race is going to be in a wetsuit, I have no problem with you using these in your technical work, to allow you to be more mindful in your connections and stroke development.
